Board Statement on Chauvin Verdict

It is with a sense of solemn relief that we received today the news that Derek Chauvin has been found guilty on all charges. We stand in solidarity and celebration of this ruling with our family in the Black community.

The work we do is inherently rooted in the advancement of justice. It is our firmly held belief that injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. In order to build a safer, more just, more equitable Georgia for bisexual+ people, we must acknowledge the intersections of identities they hold and the issues they face as a result.

The systems of oppression that Black Americans face every day, the police brutality that has ended so many lives, and the failure of our legal systems to hold accountable those who abuse authority threaten the safety of our community. So we feel relief that, this time, justice was secured.

But we must not forget all the ways the systems of our society failed leading up to this point, and in countless other instances. While this is a step in the right direction, we know that there is so much more work to be done.

We are committed to doing this work and following the lead of organizations who have led this fight for years. But for today, we celebrate this victory and all those who worked to secure it.
